Kitchen Sense is a cooking timer.
It does not ask who you are or who you know, and it never asks your phone for your location. It does work out which country you are in, from the connection rather than from your phone — that is the one thing about you it derives, and the next section says why.

This policy describes what the app records, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be defensible, so if anything here is unclear, treat that as a bug and tell us.
The short version
- —There is no account and no login. Not for the free app, not after you buy it.
- —We record what you cooked and how it went — the dish, the choices you tapped, the time we calculated, and whether it came out right.
- —We infer your country from the network address your device connects from. We never ask your phone for GPS or location permission.

- —Your cook history lives on your device first. The app works completely offline.
What we record
Cook activity
Every time you run a timer, the app records a session:

This is the entire product. The difference between the standard time and the time that actually worked for you is what lets the app learn your kitchen — your pan, your hob, your idea of "done".
We record this for everyone, including people who have not bought the upgrade. Without the upgrade we still calculate your personal adjustment; we just do not apply it to your timer. That means if you buy it later, the app is already tuned to you rather than starting from scratch.
Country
When your device uploads sessions, our server looks at the network address the request arrived from and derives a country from it — not a city, not a neighbourhood, not a position. The network address itself is used for that lookup and is not stored alongside your sessions.
We do this to show how a dish is cooked in different places. You can correct your country in Settings at any time, and your correction wins.
The app never requests location permission from your phone, and it cannot read your GPS position. This is a deliberate design rule, not an oversight.
An anonymous device identifier
The first time the app runs, our server issues it a random identifier and a matching secret. That identifier ties your sessions together so the app can learn from your own history, and lets us shut off a device that floods the shared dataset with nonsense.
It is generated by us and is not your advertising identifier, your hardware serial, or anything the rest of your phone knows about. It identifies an install, not a person. Deleting the app and reinstalling produces a new one.
Purchases
The upgrade is a single purchase, handled by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card details, billing address, or store account. We use RevenueCat to tell us whether a given install has been upgraded — a yes or a no, tied to the anonymous device identifier above.
There is no subscription and nothing recurring.
What we never collect

- —Contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or files
- —Advertising identifiers, or any signal usable for cross-app tracking
- —Anything at all from other apps on your device
There are no ads in Kitchen Sense and no advertising SDK is embedded in it.
What we do with it
Your timers
Your personal adjustment is calculated on your device, from your own history. It is not calculated on our servers, and other people's cooking never changes your timer.
Global Kitchen
Sessions are aggregated by country and dish, and shown as counts and averages. It is never possible to see an individual session, and a country with too few sessions is not shown at all.
Making the app less wrong
The gap between our standard times and what actually works tells us which dishes we have mistimed. This is the only way the recipes improve.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use these services to run the app:

Where it lives and for how long
Sessions are written to your device first and uploaded later, in batches, when you have a connection. If you are offline, nothing is lost and nothing is sent — the app is fully functional with the network switched off.
We keep session records for as long as the app is in use, because the personal calibration is built from your history and old cooks still carry signal. Aggregated country-level figures are kept indefinitely; they cannot be traced to a device.
Your choices
- —Correct your country in Settings.
- —Delete everything on your device from Settings, or by deleting the app. Local history goes with it.
- —Ask us to delete what we hold. Email us from the address below. Because the identifier is anonymous, you will need to send it to us — Settings shows it, and it is the only way we can find your records.
- —Ask for a copy of what we hold, the same way.
Depending on where you live you may have further rights over your data — for example under the GDPR or the CCPA. We apply the rights above to everyone regardless of where they are, because maintaining two standards for a cooking timer would be silly.
Children
Kitchen Sense is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. There is nothing in the app that identifies a person, so we cannot tell how old you are — but if you believe a child's data has reached us, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we change this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will also be surfaced in the app rather than only here.
